Undergraduate Courses

The Department of Informatics offers two different five-year undergraduate courses:

Computer Science and Systems Engineering (LESI)
This course has gained wide recognition in the country. It is considered to be a one of a kind degree, enabling the LESI graduates to adopt a systems perspective in the analysis, design, management and optimisation of engineering solutions. The encompassed systems range from software specification, multimedia, distributed, information, communications to architectures and digital design systems. The course is structured to allow the students to strengthen their knowledge in areas of their choosing.

Mathematics and Computer Science (LMCC)
This course, run jointly with the Department of Mathematics (School of Science), belongs to a modern brand of Computer Science curricula, paving the way to sound software development techniques based on formal methods. Helped by laboratorial experience and contact with the most recent technologies, the graduate of LMCC is capable of specifying, documenting and implementing software of high standard.

The Department contributes to other courses in Engineering, Sciences, Economics and Social Sciences, offered by other departments of the University.

Postgraduate Degrees in the Department of Informatics

There are three kinds of postgraduate courses:

1 - Doctorate
Such courses are open to students holding master's degrees and those who gained a final mark of 16 or more in their first degree. Doctorates usually take three or four years and may include some lectures. The course plan is normally designed on an individual basis.
2 - Master's degrees
Such courses are open to students who gained a final mark of 14 or more in their first degree. They include lecture courses (normally 2 semester) followed by a dissertation (two semesters).
