The Informatics Department at the University of Minho (DIUM) is based in Braga (northwest of Portugal) and comprises 52 researchers, and 10 staff members.

The department's mission is to disseminate knowledge, both applied and fundamental, in the areas of computer science, and information technologies, with a particular emphasis on Software Engeneering and on Communications and Computer Networks.

It accomplishes these goals by

• offering courses at all levels of University teaching (BSc, MSc, PhD, and pos-doc)
• developping R&D projects

The courses taught at DIUM have had a continued national recognition, which is expressed by the substancial demand by both prospective students, as well as by the major employers.

Research and development carried out by members is done in the context of CCTC research center, funded by FCT (the national science foundation).
