The main focus of interest for the group is Artificial Intelligence and its application to intelligent artifacts. Intelligent artifacts are defined as soft bots or man-made physical systems containing computational equipment and software that provide them with capabilities for receiving and comprehending sensory data, for reasoning, and for rational action in their environment. Examples of such artifacts range from software agents to ground mobile robots. Bioinformatics has become an emergent research field within the IA group. The main reasearch areas have been the modelling and optimization of biological processes and Systems Biology, in collaboration with CEB/UM, and the development of Data Mining techniques.
